From equine world to canine
Welcome to my blog!
As the title might suggest, my life took a drastic turn in more ways than one.
Hi, my name is Caitlin, and I am the owner of Waidwerk Weimaraners.
Where It All Began
Growing up, I was always a big animal lover. I grew up on a small-scale farm, and my primary love was horses. But we always had a range of critters around, too. My parents believed in adopting pets from the local animal shelter, giving them a second chance at life. They also believed that Heinz 57s were, overall, better dogs than purebreds.

The Equine Years
From my teens into my mid-twenties, everything revolved around horses. I worked as a seasonal construction worker during the summers, and in the winters, I worked at a horse boarding and training facility. I was living the dream: riding every day and calling it work.
During my equine phase, I had dogs, but they were mainly seen as hiking companions. I enjoyed their company, but I didn't go out of my way to get involved with them any further.

A Change in Direction
Shortly after getting married, my husband and I had a conversation about our future and the challenges ahead. Being Canadian and him being American, our very first hurdle was immigration. He would be transitioning to a new country and essentially starting from scratch, from building credit to eventually being able to buy a home.
So, we decided it was time for me to step away from horses. And after the loss of a really special mare, I was ready for that break.

Enter the Weimaraner
During our first winter together in Canada, we bought our first Weimaraner puppy, Kimber.
We were told she was a purebred, but she didn't have papers. At the time, that was fine with us. Both of us had grown up with “mutts,” as our families believed they were the best dogs out there.
But after our time with Sadie, a senior Weimaraner we had adopted in North Carolina, we knew we wanted another. And that's what brought us to Kimber.
We had Kimber for a couple of years before deciding we wanted to bring home another weimaraner. But I think my equine background started to take over. I began doing my research, and as luck would have it, I found a local, ethical breeder in our area with stunning Weimaraners.
Little did I know, my whole perspective on dogs was about to change.
